Feasibility study to Fuel Gas of the SU-H3 and SU-H4 fired heaters belonging to the Sulpholane Unit for CEPSA Refinery at Gibraltar-San Roque

CEPSA has awarded AITESA a study of feasibility of different changes in the fired heaters SU-H3 and SU-H4 located at the Refinery of Gibraltar-San Roque.

The feasibility study aims to define the necessary improvements in the fired heaters SU-H3 and SU-H4 as well as in the existing preheater, for energetic optimization of the system burning gas exclusively. The study will define the heat savings, as well as CO2 reduction and electric consumptions. Furthermore, NOx emissions will be evaluated for the new operating conditions.

Both fired heaters are vertical cylindrical with forced / induced draft load at the Sulpholane Unit. SU-H3 fired heater functions as a reboiler of the prefractionating column and SU-H4 fired heater functions as a reboiler of a splitter. Before heading to the stack, the output flue gases of both fired heaters pass through a common combustion airpreheater.

Therefore, we have studied the possible necessary improvements to both fired heaters and to the common existing preheater in order to optimize the system energetically, considering the risks by acid condensation and compliance with the required emissions.
