Improving energy efficiency at Fertiberia’s ammonia plant

In 2021 AITESA was awarded an energy efficiency project for Fertiberia Group, in which our company was responsible for the engineering and supply of a new air preheater in the ammonia plant, as well as new revamped radiation section and convection section coils of the fired heater.
As a result, the following benefits were found:
Lower pressure drop in the fired heater, which allows to operate the entire plant with only one heater (formerly two were necessary, operating in parallel).
Remarkably smaller amount of parasite air and excess air.
15% lower exhaust flue gas temperature.
Lower fuel consumption.
Improved heater draft and pressure control, thanks to the installation of variable speed drives on the primary air fans and the flue gas induced draft fan.
It has been a fantastic experience to have the opportunity to work with Fertiberia Group, special shootout to José Ramon Serrano Felipe and Julian L Cavada for their amazing job and kind support.
